Once again we’ve gone Japanese as ‘Spoiler Filled Film Conversation, Hooray’ decides to have a spoilery chat and review of ‘Sonatine’, the ‘Beat’ Takeshi Kitano movie from 1993. Listen in as Rich, Ant and Abi waffle on as usual, this time pondering the innate stillness of Takeshi himself, his comedic origins, the ambiguities in the ending, and the general association of yakuza with terrible fashion sense in pop culture. They nobly resist the urge to babble about ‘Takeshi’s Castle’ and Rich wonders at the similarities between the beach games sequence with a game he’s just been playing. If you want more detail you will just have to listen! (Ep 48, Rec 2014)

047: SFFCH – Goin’ South
‘Spoiler Filled Film Conversation, Hooray’ returns to take a gander at the 1978 Jack Nicholson western ‘Goin’ South’. It’s mad old Jack’s second directorial effort, and Jamie has brought it in for an in depth discussion. Join Rich, Jamie and Ant as they ponder what on Earth John Belushi was doing in his theatrical debut, the ever odd choices of Mary Steenburgen,Christopher Lloyds brief appearance and the wonders of late 70s Westerns. All those things and more feature as Nicholson plays an archetypal non-hero in a non-typical Western. Listen in to find out the final verdict on ‘Goin’ South’! (Ep 47, Rec 2014)
046: SFFCH – The Runaways
Abi brings ‘The Runaways’ from 2010 into the ‘Spoiler Filled Film Conversation, Hooray’ recording studio. Has her Michael Shannon obsession run away with her or was it a worthwhile pick? Join Rich, Abi and Jamie as they tunnel their way into the land of rock and roll for an in depth discussion. Is this a biopic that is far too sanitized? Is the influence of Joan Jett far more significant than she and the Runaways actually were as a group? How many times can three people say ‘like’ in a recording? Why bother with anyone else but Shannon in a movie? All these details, plus the dodgy clothes and worries that the movie is just one big cliché. (Ep 46, Rec 2014)
045: SFFCH – Stay Tuned
Please tune in to our discussion of ‘Stay Tuned’? (Actually you don’t need to tune anything in this is the internet, just press play.) Our pet director Peter Hyams returns with this movie from 1992, so join Rich, Abi and Jamie as they jabber on about Ant’s choice and dig deep into this epic experience. Is ‘Stay Tuned’ a prototype for ‘Cabin In The Woods’? Is it a parody of American television in the early 1990s? An inevitable damp squib for a bunch of Brits in 2014? Did Eugene Levy’s punishment culminate in his career starting performance in SCTV? How can this compare to Hyams’ previous efforts such as ‘Timecop’ and ‘Outland’? You’ll have to listen in, and wait for our expert verdict, as well as the inevitable wrestling references.
Note: Pam Dawber from ‘Mork and Mindy’ is in this movie! John Ritter too, but he can’t compare to Mindy! (Ep 45, Rec 2014)
044: SFFCH – Human Traffic
The Spoiler Filled posse of Rich, Abi, Ant and Jamie discuss the Cardiff-based film about drug culture and people with funny names from 1999. It’s a very Welsh discussion, with some mature content. Did this movie prompt reality, or did reality prompt this movie? Did people really wear those funny garments back then? And it this film actually Welsh to begin with? The crew finally settle on this being a film about life and growing up. ‘What’s your name? What have you had? Reach for the lasers. Safe as f***’ (Ep 44, Rec 2014)
043: SFFCH – Mission Impossible 2
Our Mission (and we did choose to accept it) was to create a podcast about ‘Mission Impossible II’. Spoiler Filled Film Conversation Hooray deals with this Tom Cruise vehicle from 2000. This is the one where the franchise transitions from ‘Mission Impossible’ to ‘Mission Implausible’ but there are still good or interesting things to find. Join Rich, the chooser Jamie, and Abi as they go over this action-fest and ask each other pointed questions. Is there a dangling moment in every MI movie? Does Ethan Hunt dangle off things for fun when not for business? Does the phrase ‘generic action movie’ come to mind? Is that guy’s name ‘Ethan Hunt’? What’s with all the masks? Whats with all the doves? This message will self destruct in five seconds…..BOOM! (Ep 43, Rec 2014)
042: SFFCH – 8 Heads In A Duffel Bag
“The title is the reason to watch, and Joe Pesci is the reason to stay.” Welcome to the Spoiler Filled Film Conversation Hooray, where Rich, Abi and Ant have been watching ‘Eight Heads In A Duffel Bag’ from 1997. Listen along as Rich blatantly digs a hole for himself and then schills desperately for CEX and David Spade. Marvel at the incongruity of crime and comedy. Become alarmed at the Shia LaBeouf / Tom Hanks hybrid. Question whether the bag is big enough. Oh, and please enjoy this podcast and leave a comment, but please not via a frozen cryogenic head. Note: The skull from ‘Curse of Monkey Island’ – whose name Abi couldn’t remember – was called Murray. (Ep 42, Rec 2014)

040: SFFCH – Dougal And The Blue Cat
Rich take the guys for a ride on ‘The Magic Roundabout’ as Spoiler Filled Film Conversation Hooray takes on ‘Dougal and the Blue Cat’ from 1970. Listen to Rich, Ant and Jamie as they talk about the sheer madness of the Dougal movie, marvel at the level of Britishness absorbed into this film and discuss the inherent trippiness of a film with no meaningful connection to drugs. Well, it is French. There may be total nonsense, be warned, and nightmare fuel. *Wiggles moustache ‘Time for bed.’ Boing! (Ep 40, Rec 2013)
039: SFFCH – The Court Jester
Ant takes ‘Spoiler Filled Film Conversation Hooray’ back to 1956 with the cult classic Danny Kaye comedy ‘The Court Jester’. Join Rich, Ant and Abi as they thoroughly discuss and boggle at the shear dwarf power on display. Not only is there dwarf power but also vessels with pestles, flagons with dragons, chalices from palaces, brews that are true, snappy dialogue, complexity and Basil Rathbone! So please listen along but don’t step in the wrong place as you might get catapulted into the ocean. Also, all birthmarks must be disclosed before listening. (Ep 39, Rec 2013)
