We travel back to 1971 to scrutinize another Western, and one with a different take on the classic Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday story, with Doc. Instead of being the indisputable heroes of the story the movie offers a more grounded and nuanced take of the characters, portraying them as not so clean cut gentlemen. Is it sacrilegious to the legend or is it a good subversion of the tale? Tune in to find out.
As a tonic to a lot of the fantasy films we’ve done recently we head on home to Britain for it’s unique flavour of depressing, kitchen sink-type dramas. One of the kings of such a genre is Mike Leigh and boy does he not hold any punches with his TV Movie from 1983 Meantime, a blackly comic drama about a family’s struggles living in working class Thatcherite England.
