439: Fallen [1998] Movie Discussion

It’s taken us a while, but we finally realised that Denzel Washington is pretty good at this acting business. We’ve also got some due love to give for Elias Koteas and John Goodman too, even if Fallen has a crippling case of ‘Good Idea, Bad Execution’. Come and listen to us: debate demon possession rules, develop an aversion to James Gandolfini’s facial hair and try to comprehend the extreme subtlety of a mass murdering monster eating cereal.

Happy Merry Time, one and all!

It’s time for our festive filmic feature and where better to look for a Christmas movie than Japan! (It was bound to happen on this podcast eventually) And what better themes to tackle than homelessness, poverty, abandonment and suicide! But don’t worry dear listener, this film is somehow one of the funniest, most joyful and wholesome Christmas movies out there,whilst never holding back on it’s harrowing depiction of Wintertime on the Japanese streets.

437: Take Shelter [2011] Movie Discussion

It’s time to hunker down and watch some Michael Shannon this week as we dig into Take Shelter from 2011. It was brought to our attention as many consider it to contain one of Shannon’s best performances on screen and, by God, we do love a Michael Shannon performance here at Spoiler Filled, how could we resist?! Our love for Shannon remains undiminished, but we are a little more divided about the successfulness of the film as a whole. Is it a poignant study of mental illness and societal foreboding or a messy, often nonsensical re-imagining of Noah’s Ark? Tune in to find out our decision.
