272: Lupin III – Castle of Cagliostro [1979] Movie Review

269 Castle of Cagliostro

Before his immensely influential work at Studio Ghibli, director Hayao Miyazaki made his feature directorial debut on Lupin the 3rd: Castle of Cagliostro and it’s quite clear to the Spoiler Filled Crew that this is the start of many of his signature themes and styles. In this episode: Ant goes through the differences between the Japanese and English versions of the film, Abi becomes uncharacteristically interested in classic cars, Rich gets a little lost with the plot and we all have a rollicking good time.

272 Moon

Our discussion of Moon, a 2009 Sci-Fi film directed by Duncan Jones, goes off the rails pretty early with some irreverent talk of David Bowie, but our actual reverence for Sam Rockwell brings us back on track fairly soon. 269: The Black Hole [1979] Movie Review

270 The Black Hole

As a mild tribute to the late actor Robert Forster, Jamie has chosen to take the Spoiler Filed crew on a journey through The Black Hole, a Disney Sci-fi from 1979, which was one of the early attempts to find a middle ground between the mature existential sci-fi of 2001: A Space Odyssey and the light-hearted action sci-fi of Star Wars. Was the movie successful? Come and find out in our discusson including: sassy British robots, Ernest Borgnine’s horrible jumper, whether this could have been a pilot for a 70’s Star Trek show and getting a little too much amusement out of the name ‘Bottoms’.
