So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, aideu.(Get it? The Long Goodbye? Aren’t I clever?!) We do love the 70’s here at Spoiler Filled and especially gritty American movies about mumbling criminals and detectives. Throw in some Robert Altman and Elliot Gould and you have a sure-fire winner for us. So come and listen as we discuss such curiosities as: feeding cats raw eggs, impressionist security guards, the novelty of chicken kievs and how can we not mention Arnold Schwartzenegger in his pants.
Somehow we all agree that The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension is not a good film and yet we don’t agree whether we actually like it or not. Come and find out how that can be so in a film about a brain surgeon/rocket scientist/rock star and his eccentric band of merry men battling dimensional rock alien prisoners named John and all the baffling bollocks that happens along the way.
Hey! Remember Freejack? from 1992? Emilio Estevez? Time travel? No? Well, there’s a good reason for that seeing as it is so forgettable, but we are here to remind you about some of the things worth remembering like: eagle-man hobo, Amanda Plummer’s foul-mouthed nun, Mick Jagger saying ‘asshole’, some terrible editing and Mike from Breaking Bad being smacked in the balls.
Ah, the surprise twist! Sometimes it blows your mind and makes a movie a lot better. And sometimes it’s practically given away half way through the film and, if you think about it enough, it makes everything that happened in the film highly elaborate, unethical and irresponsible. Well, that’s the case with Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island, a more Hichcockian than Scorsesean psychological thriller from 2010. (Spoiler: there’s a twist ending)
